Larry and Somai have been selling home grown Thai herbs and produce at the Hilo Farmers Market since 1998. In a small back yard farm up in Kurtistown, the "highlands" above Hilo, Somai and Larry grow just enough produce to harvest themselves. Although officially retired, the couple stays very busy growing and harvesting liliko'i, avocado, lemongrass, bamboo, chilie peppers, papaya, jackfruit and mangosteen and taking it all to the Hilo farmers market twice a week. In addition Somai and Larry spend hours every week chopping and dicing the ingredients for green papaya salad and other savory Thai dishes to sell at the farmers market for an impromptu meal, already prepared.
